The Staff

Glenn Geissler - Veterinarian, BVSc (University of Queensland)

Glenn is the Company Director and principal Veterinarian at The Bloomin’ Vet. He has 14 years of experience in both small and large animal practice. Coming from a cattle farming family in Central Queensland Glenn naturally found himself working in mixed practice. However he has always enjoyed the challenges and variety presented by small animal medicine and surgery and he has spent time working in a couple of exclusively small animal clinics over the years as well as a small animal emergency hospital. Glenn has also acquired considerable experience as an equine vet having worked for some major equine stud practices in both Qld and NSW. Glenn has worked at a variety of locations around Australia including the Sunshine Coast, Townsville, Katherine and Darwin, Port Hedland, Dubbo, the Gold Coast and Beaudesert.

One of the most enjoyable things Glenn finds about being a veterinarian is seeing the difference in the quality of life experienced by some pets when chronic conditions are alleviated through a combination of medication, treatment and/or surgery. He also really enjoys seeing children take an active interest in the care of their pets when they bring their pets in with mum and dad.

Glenn enjoys golf and fishing (although never seems to find the time to indulge in these passions!) as well as has a keen interest in his Paint and Quarter Horses that he breeds in conjunction with his wife Belinda.

As well as horses Glenn also has pet Dalmatian dogs that he enjoys taking to obedience training, and t inside cats - a Russian Blue and a Burmese.

Ashleigh Maclot - Veterinary Nurse

Ashleigh has always wanted to be a veterinary nurse since she was a child. She is currently well on the way to completeing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and she really enjoys the surgical side of nursing, including inpatient care and developing long term relationships with clients and their pets.

Ashleigh has grown up in the Brisbane area and has been involved with all sorts of animals, including farm animals on her grandparents farm at Ipswich. She is also a wildlife carer for possums for the Ipswich Koala Protection Society. Her pets currently include 4 dogs (Japanese Spitz and Huskies) and half a dozen bearded dragons.

In her spare time Ashleigh enjoys competing at dog breed shows all over south east Qld with her Japanese Spitz and her proudest achievement to date is Runner Up Best In Group.

Kaela McDowell - Veterinary Nurse

Kaela knew while she was still at school that she wanted to pursue a career with animals. After working alongside a colleague with considerable veterinary nursing experience at the RSPCA, Kaela decided that vet nursing was what she would like to do. Kaela is currently in her second year of study towards her veterinary nursing qualifications.

Kaela cites assisting the vets in providing various treatments to animals and learning the skills that are necessary in dealing with many different types of animals as being something she particularly enjoys about vet nursing. Kaela loves all animals and she has a particular soft spot for the larger dogs breeds including Great Danes and Labradors.

At home Kaela enjoys the company of her family’s Border Collie and 4 young cats. Away from animals Kaela is interested incamping, kayaking and water skurfing. Kaela also enjoys tinkering around with computers in her spare time.

Nikki Kearns - Veterinary Nurse

Nikki is a long time Jimboomba resident having lived in the area for over 10 years. Although she is relatively new to veterinary nursing, she has a lifetime of experience around animals including dogs, cats, guinea pigs and of course her beloved horses. Nikki brings a wealth of experience from working in other pet and equine related businesses and is also heavily involved in the local equestrian community including volunteering at the local Greenbank Pony Club.  Nikki is currently studying equine nursing and will then commence studing general veterinary nursing.

Nikki is married and has a young family and their family pets include two dogs, both ridgeless ridgebacks. When she's not working, Nikki enjoys taking her horses and dogs to the beach, riding their quad bike, BBQ's and spending time with her husband and children.

On the work front Nikki loves educating clients on how to best care for their pets and strives to always provide a very high level of customer service. She wants to ensure that our clients and their pets have a positive experience with our clinic and looks forward to welcoming them back on their return visits. Another particularly rewarding aspect of her job here at The Bloomin Vet is seeing animals recover from acute trauma and/or sickness and the corresponding look of relief on their owners face.
